Canarium odontophyllum is a species of Canarium which is a delicious and nutritious fruit which tastes something like avocado. Quality fruits have oily yellowish appearance when the outer dark purple skin is removed. The whole fruit is soaked 5 - 10 minutes in hot water and eaten with sugar.

Dabai, Kembayau, Pili Nut. Rare nut tree from Indonesia. Trees of Canarium are attractive symmetrically shaped evergreens, with resistance to strong wind. A delicious and nutritious fruit which tastes something like avocado. Quality fruits have oily yellowish appearance when the outer dark purple skin is removed. The whole fruit is soaked 5 - 10 minutes in hot water and eaten with sugar. When raw, the nut resembles the flavor of roasted pumpkin seed, and when roasted, its mild, nutty flavor and tender-crispy texture is superior to that of the almond. The young shoots are used in salads.
