True Crossandra is a fast-growing tropical shrub. It can be used as a low-growing groundcover, about 2 feet tall, or as a small shrub, 2-5 ft tall. It grows best in full sun to semi-shade and needs regular water. It will thrive in USDA Zone 9-11. Crossandra infundibuliformis produces flowers that are red, crimson, and vinous, or yellow and orange, depending on the variety. Its blooming period is from spring to late fall. This plant attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. In colder regions, Crossandra infundibuliformis can be grown in a pot or container. It should be brought indoors during the coldest months of winter. Potting soil should be kept slightly moist and fertilize it once every month with a balanced liquid fertilizer. If grown in a pot, the plant should be transplanted into a larger one when it starts to outgrow its current pot.
