People-Cats Stories

Simba

I'm a sweet, playful and affectionate cat, who was desperately seeking my forever home. I used to have a home, but my owners moved out and abandoned me, leaving me all alone, scared and hungry. They packed their stuff, loaded the truck, took the dog and even didn't forget their 4-year old son... But they left me behind! I was sitting under a bush for days and days... I waited and waited, buy they never came back. Luckily, I had a nice neighbor who cared enough to feed me and made sure I had water to drink. She wanted to take me in and foster me until I found my new family, but before she was able to arrange my room set up, someone took me to Domestic Animal Services. She called wanting to rescue me, but her landlord won't approve another animal since she already has 2 dogs and 2 cats :( I've been in shelter for almost a month, and since shelters are now overcrowded with so many cats, I needed to find a home soon. I didn't deserve to be abandoned and I don't want to die!! So, I decided to speak for myself on Craigslist with a help of that nice neighbor... and it worked! My new Mommy saw my story on Craigslist and took me home the same day with her! She says I'm the sweetest cat in the world. I'm a happy cat by nature, playful, affectionate and dearly love my pettin's and rubbin's. I get along with other cats, dogs and children. And now I have my forever Home Sweet Home!

The Lonely Cat

By Marie Christine Trickett

Once I was an abandoned cat, just looking for a new home.
I had no place to go, and no one to call my own.
I wandered the streets, in the rain and Florida heat,
I ate what ever I could find, and my fur was never neat.

My skin would itch, my feet were sore, and my body ached with pain.
Yet, no one stopped to give me a pat, or to gently say my name.
I never saw a loving glance, and I was always on the run,
For people thought that ignoring me was lots of fun.

Then, one day I heard a voice, so gentle, kind and sweet.
Loving arms reached down to me and took me off my feet.
"No one again will abandon you", was whispered in my ear.
"You'll have a home to call your own where you'll know no fear.
You will be dry, warm, and always have enough to eat.
And rest assured that when you sleep, your dreams will all be sweet."

As she softened my cries, and stroked my fur,
She told me about loving rescue folks and what it meant to her.
She said, "We are a circle, a line that never ends,
And in the center there is you protected by new friends.
All around you are the ones that check the grounds, and pounds,
And those that share their home after you've been found.

"There is a loving family, that's waiting patiently,
And pretty soon we'll find them, just you wait and see.
And then they'll join our circle; they'll help to make it grow,
So there'll be room for more like you who have no place to go."

I waited patiently. The days they came and went.
Today's the day I thought, my family will be sent.
Then just when I began to think it wasn't meanto be,
There was a sweet lady standing there gazing down at me.
I loved her in a heartbeat, and I could tell she felt it too.

She said, "Hello, Simba. I read abou you, and I've come to adopt you".
Now, every night I say a prayer to all the gods that be,
"Thank you for the life I now live and all you've given me.
But, most of all protect the cats in the pound and on the street.
And send a Rescue Person to lift them off their feet."
