For its best growth in USDA zone 9-11, Ruizia cordata needs full sun exposure, however it can also cope with some semi-shade. The soil should be well-draining and its water needs are regular; avoid water-logging. It can be grown outside in warm climates and in pots in colder areas. When growing in pots in cold regions, it is important to make sure the plant is in a container that has drainage holes and use well-draining soil mix. During winter months, give it protection from freezing temperatures and moving it to a bright and sunny spot indoors such as a south-facing window. During the years it can reach a maximum height of 10-20 feet, with the greatest flowering occurring in the spring.

Ruizia cordata is a beautiful ornamental plant due to its attractive foliage and showy pink flowers. Its leaves are from 4-10 cm long and 2.5-8 cm wide and are highly dissected for an aesthetic appeal. These flowers will appear from spring to early summer and will stay for a few weeks. The bark of the tree is a deep blackish color and highly cracked, adding to its visual value.
