| Keteleeria davidiana Family: Pinaceae Keteleeria Origin: Taiwan ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A rare genera of Chinese conifers with much the look and texture of firs - but proving to be much better adapted to the south. The tree reaches 40-50 m in height, developing an irregular oblate crown with large branches. The branchlets have a dense covering of stiff hairs. The bark is dull brown to dark gray-black, and is scaly or flaky. The leaves are needle-like. They are flat, stiff, and dark shiny green. The plant prefers light (sandy) and medium (loamy) soils and requires well-drained soil. The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It cannot grow in the shade.
