Hyophorbe lagenicaulis, also known as Bottle Palm, is a spectacular palm native to Mascarene Islands in Indian Ocean. Grown in USDA Zone 9-11, this palm can reach somewhere between 10-20 ft tall. Like most palms, Bottle Palm enjoys full sun and moderate water and should not be over watered. It can tolerate dry conditions, so it is an ideal plant for seaside gardening, as it is salt tolerant.

For those of you who want to plant this palm in cold regions, you can successfully grow it in a pot or any other container. You can then move it to your garden in the summer months. When planting in the pot, make sure to use a well-draining soil and be careful to water it moderately. In the winter months, move the pot indoors to avoid cold damage and keep it in a protected sunny spot. Give it some extra humidity and care, and it will flourishes in the warm of your home.
