SUNSHINE Power-Si

Silicon Plant Protector

Pests... diseases... stress from salt, drought, heat or frost, nutrient imbalance... are not terms associated with healthy and happy plants!

Thankfully, now we have SUNSHINE Power-Si - with Silicon (Si) as an active element.

What makes SUNSHINE Power-Si so special?

SUNSHINE Power-Si has Silicon (Si) as an active element. Adding it to soil and/or applying as a foliar spray can immensely enhance plant resistance to external factors and boost their growth and health.

Silicon (Si) - is the mineral substrate absolutely necessary for all plant life on our Planet. In field crops it is known to affect plant growth and quality, photosynthesis, transpiration and enhance plant resistance to stresses such as drought and freezing. When readily available to plants, it plays a large role in several functions:

  • Increased photosynthetic activity
  • Increased insect and disease resistance
  • Reduced mineral toxicity
  • Improvement of nutrient imbalance
  • Enhanced drought and frost tolerance
  • Enhanced plant growth
  • SUNSHINE Power-Si can be used with every watering to maintain pH between 5.5-6.5.

Application: Mix 3 ml in 1 pt (16 oz) of water or use 25 ml per 1 gal of water. Foliar spray + root drench once a month.

What is Silicon?

Silicon (Si) is an element that is very common in nature, and there is an abundance of it in most soils. However, since Si is found primarily as silicate minerals, aluminum silicates, and several forms of silicon dioxide, a problem comes into play. Simply adding large amounts of these won’t help the plant due to variables in the soil. The reason is, the conversion of these solid silicon compounds into the only known plant-available silicon compound - monosilicic acid (MSA), is very low!

However, when there is enough Si (in available form), it can dramatically increase photosynthetic activity, insect and disease resistance, enhance drought and frost tolerance, and so much more.

The revolutionary supplement SUNSHINE Power-Si is that exact special formula that makes Silicon easily available to the plant metabolism!

The Power of Silicon

  • Major effects on the absorption and translocation of several macronutrient and micronutrient elements
  • When Si is added, plants will contain this element in their tissues at levels comparable to those of several other macronutrient elements such as K, Ca, Mg, S, and P
  • Safer than fungicides for living organisms and has a lower negative impact on the environment
  • Positively affects the growth and development of plants. Si contributes to the mechanical strength of cell walls and their function of keeping plants upheld so they can receive sunlight to perform photosynthesis
  • Impregnation of cell walls with Si contributes to the resistance of plants to attacks by fungi and insects

What is the Role of Silicon in plant development?

Silicon (Si) - is the mineral substrate absolutely necessary for all plant life on our Planet.

What are Silicon deficiency symptoms?

  • Weakened stems, leaves, and roots
  • Affects formation of thick silicate epidermal cell layer, which is crucial for healthy plants
  • Plants become more susceptible to fungal and bacterial diseases, and insects and mites
  • Plants become more susceptible to water and temperature stress

Should it be applied as a foliar spray or soil drench?

Plants are divided into 2 main groups, dicots and monocots. (Distinctive features are: monocot leaves have parallel veins, and their flowers usually form in threes; Dicots form “branching veins” and flowers occur in groups of four or five).

While the soil solution works well for monocots, it doesn’t work as efficiently for dicots, based on experiments. Adding a foliar spray helps to compensate for low uptake by the roots of dicots, resulting in enhanced Si uptake with beneficial effects.

Directions and applications

SUNSHINE-Power works great at very low concentrations. Once applied to soil, Si is immobile. Only a small fraction is converted to a plant needed silicon compound - MSA.

Soil drench and Foliar spray

Although it is important for the Si to be taken up from the roots, Si applied to leaves accumulates there also and has a similar effect as being absorbed from the roots.

Dilute 25 ml of concentrated SUNSHINE Power-Si in 1 gal of distilled water.

Apply as foliar spray and to soil around roots once a month during the active growth period (In tropical and subtropical areas, from March through November).

Use during winter months has also been shown to improve cold tolerance of plants

SUNSHINE-Power-Si can be used with every watering to maintain pH between 5.5-6.5.

Toxicology and Ecological Safety

Stabilized silicic acid (sSA) is the active ingredient and is used as a food supplement for humans and animals in almost the same concentrations.

Chol-sSA and PeG-sSA are registered for human consumption and these compounds are known to be non-toxic.

Therefore, it is safe for plants, soils, farmers, surface and groundwater, insects, and consumers.

The essential plant nutrients and element intake

In order to be in top shape, plants require adequate nutrition just like humans. The natural model of element intake for a plant is through the roots. However, foliar sprays of the essential elements in most cases has even more beneficial effects. These are foliar fertilizers, micro-elements, plant hormones, biostimulants, and other beneficial substances, as well as pesticides.

Oxygen (O2) - Plants need oxygen to survive, during photosynthesis, plants take in CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) from the air and combine it with water absorbed through their roots. They use energy from sunlight to turn these ingredients into carbohydrates (sugars) and oxygen, and they release extra oxygen to the air.

Water (H2O) - Water helps plants by transporting important nutrients. Nutrients are pulled from the soil from the plant, and without water plants droop so it helps them stand up.

Silicon (Si) is another important element which is able to enhance the resistance of plants to multiple stresses, enhances their growth, and adds balance to nutritional needs.

Most of the Si absorbed by plants is in the form of amorphous silica, SiO2*nH2O.
