Hilo Beauty is a gorgeous, ornamental, evergreen perennial plant with unique black stems with a bluish hue and lovely variegated large leaves. You might see this plant called an Alocasia, but it seems to be a common misconception; in some sources it says "This plant was recently renamed an Alocasia, for-merly a Colocasia".

Very popular collectible hybrid, this is one plant that truly lives up to its cool name! Purple and green camouflaged leaves with a lime green stem. Each leaf of this Elephant Ear is like an artists canvas, no two are exactly alike. The popular name of this large erect shrub is inspired by the clusters of bright orange-yellow berries that follow the flowers, in such quantities that they often cause the slender branches to droop gracefully. The white flowers appear in loose clusters, and both berries and blossoms are often seen on a plant. This evergreen fast growing shrub spreads and arches to 10 feet tall and wide and is great for live hedges and covering fences and corners.

Variegated Sky Flower is grown for its summer flowers and ornamental fruit. Euclinia longiflora - African Tree Gardenia. African Angel Trumpets, Tree Gardenia. Flowers of this tropical shrub are long tubes opening as a white fragrant trumpet, hence the common name. Gorgeous sight! Light green dense foliage resembling coffee leaves is also very ornamental. This is a very rare species. Can be grown in a pot as a houseplant, requires bright light for blooming.

Black Surinam Cherry var Black Star, or Lolita. Black fruited Surinam Cherry starts as red and turns black as it ripens.
It has exceptional flavor. The plant is vigorous and ready to fruit the same year. The fruit is very sweet, without aftertaste, large 1-1.2 inch, very juicy. Reliable producer. Hard-to-find. The tree is upright, freely branching.
These cherries are cold hardy and can take short periods of frost. Once established, the plant can withstand upper 20's without damage. The seedlings come true to seed.

Also known as the Italian Honey fig, it is most reliable for short season, cool summer areas. Wonderful, honey-sweet figs have soft-green skin and gorgeous golden-amber flesh and are good for fresh eating or dried. Large, lobed leaves are very attractive on this 10-20' tall and wide shrubby tree. These delicious figs bear two crops in warm gardens and one in cooler climates. Lattarulla fig produces an abundance of fruit. A great selection for container culture too.

LSU Purple fig is a very reliable, prolific producer of early to late delicious figs. One of the best figs to come along for some time. Excellent for containers, producing early figs as soon as growth starts. Very acclimated to the fluctuating weather of the South, does great in Virginia Beach. Zones 7-9. Has fruited well at our nursery (zone 7). Best to pick a few days after fruit turns black, wrinkles and elongates.

Also known as Negronne, Violet de Bordeaux is a purplish-black fruit with rich strawberry pulp. Considered by many the finest tasting fig. Popular in the Northwest and West. Needs protection in cold winter areas. Good for home planting as tree is dwarf. Similar fruit to Black Mission, but hardier and a smaller size tree than Mission.
It is the best fig cultivar if you have a small growing space or wish to grow the tree in a container. Grown in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 7 through 10, this small fig grows to only 6 to 10 feet tall and 6 feet wide. The late-ripening fruits feature purplish-black skin, strawberry flesh and a rich, sweet flavor. Trees are ready for harvest in early fall, but if mild climate away from coastal areas, you can expect to enjoy a harvest in midsummer and early fall.
