Herbaceous Perennials, Groundcovers, and Small Shrubs

Vibrant, pink flowers form along the upright stems. Its broad, deeply veined leaves with purple to reddish undersides protect the column of flowers clustered along the stems. As a semi-epiphytic plant, remember to dry out between watering and grow in a porous potting mixture. As the plant matures, the spectacular show of flowers becomes more wondrous.

From the Iris family comes this Neomarica with sword shaped leaves and fragrant flowers. The delicate flowers last only a day but the plant continues to form new blooms for long periods of time during late spring months. Makes also an excellent houseplant. This is not a water Iris, be careful not to overwater. Neomarica gracilis is a type of walking Iris. Once the flower is spent, the stem that it was born on lays to the ground and from that a new plant is formed. For that reason it is said to be walking across your garden. You can divide plants and plant them in new locations.

Blue Plumbago, Cape Leadwort. Unusual blue color for tropics! Blooms all year round with denser blooms from March to November. Plumbago is popular in both tropical and sub-tropical gardens because of its delicate blue flowers, it is seen often as a low plant used for hedges. It tolerates both drought and poor soil, grows best if it is heavily pruned from time to time, even cut back to the ground.

This is a very rare spectacular species of Plumbago from India. It has bright scarlet flowers and prefers shade locations. Perfect for shade garden that needs some color, and for container and indoor culture.

Patchouli, Pucha-pat - fragrant herb yielding a volatile oil by distillation. It is used in coarser perfumes and in 'White Rose' and 'Oriental' toilet soaps. Sachets are made of the coarsely-powdered leaves. Often grown in Indian gardens for home use.

The Tuberose grows in elongated spikes up to 45 cm long that produce clusters of fragrant waxy white flowers that bloom from the bottom towards the top of the spike. It has long, bright green leaves clustered at the base of the plant and smaller, clasping leaves along the stem.
Long-lasting as a cut flower in water. Most flowers begin to lose their scent when they are picked. Not so with tuberose, like jasmine, the heady floral scent continues to produce itself. In Ayurvedic medicine, attars are held in high esteem not only for their exquisite fragrance but their healing properties. Tuberose is known to improve one's capacity for emotional depth.

A showy tropical perennial, this plant is very rare in private collections. It grows in jungles of Peru and prefers humid environment with filtered light. Flowers are blood red and resemble a feather. Attracts hummingbirds.

That institution was having a special rare plant sale on the day of the famous presidential election on November 8, 1932, when F.D.R. was historically voted in as the next American president. Not only is New Deal an exceptionally obscure, heirloom cultivar especially easy to grow under average house plant conditions, it reliably produces almost an overabundance of brilliant violet-pink and white flowers which are easily an inch larger than any other variety. The plants we are offering are all 3rd generation vegetative propagation from an original specimen (still alive btw). Its name is identical to President Franklin D. Roosevel main campaign slogan.

VERY RARE! White Bat Head Lily, Bat Flower, Devil Flower, White Tacca. Curious, bat-like maroon-black inflorescence both in shape and color, with wide spreading, wing-like white bracts, accompanied by long trailing filaments or "whiskers". Mickey Mouse Taro, Mighty Mouse. This curious variety of elephant ear is a must for every rare plant collection. Unusually variegated Aroid, it has irregularly margined leaves which when first opening, its edges are a cream yellow, later turning white, and often swirled. A show stopper! This plant is thought to be a mutation of a species. Most think it is a form of atrovirens or even a possible hybrid. The leaves are never identical most are streaked with large blotches of white on dark blue green leaves.
