TROPICAL FLOWERING SHRUB

Hibiscus El Capitolio Tequila Sunrise is a tropical shrub with a graceful, fountain-like growth habit and unique pendant, double-skirted blooms in warm peach-orange tones, often with soft pink highlights. The pom-pom-like flowers stand out against glossy green foliage, adding a bright, exotic touch to the garden. Blooming from summer through fall, this hardy hibiscus thrives in full sun to partial shade, tolerates heat, drought, salt, and even wet soils. A fast grower reaching 5-10 ft, it's perfect as a showy specimen, hedge, or container plant in USDA zones 9-11.

Red Chinese Lantern. A rare weeping Hibiscus from Africa. The flowers are rscarlet ed, single, and faced-down like "Chinese lanterns." Very unique plant with compact, cascading growth habit, doesn't need any pruning, great as a container specimen. Neat Hibiscus to add to your collection that you won't find easily anywhere else!

Cotton Candy - Mallow Hibiscus flowers open pure white and change color over a three-day period until they are deep pink and then as they die assume a dark "blue-pink" hue. The three distinct colors appear on the bush simultaneously as the blooms color cycle independent of one another. Quite large blossoms are up to 5 inches across!

Jamaica Tea flower (Karkade, Roselle) - "Agua de Flor de Jamaica", also called agua de Jamaica and rosa de Jamaica, is popular in Jamaica, Mexico, Central America, and parts of South America and the Caribbean. It is one of beverages made from fresh juices or extracts. It is served chilled, and in Jamaica this drink is a tradition on Christmas, served with fruit cake or potato pudding.
In Panama both the flowers and the drink are called saril (a derivative of the Jamaican word sorrel).
In the United States, hibiscus tea was popularized as "Red Zinger". Flowers are used to make a cold or hot tea sweetened with sugar. There has been some Medical studies which indicate that it lowers high blood pressure and also has diuretic effects. The flavor is on the tart side similar to a cranberry juice. In Mexico, it is also used for granites, ice pops and sangria.

Bronze Chinese hat. Rare variety with orange-bronze flowers. Unique flowers are the main interest of this scrambling shrub: each is a narrow tube backed by a broad, circular calyx.

Africa's other Musk: less hype, more healing. It won't buy Twitter, but it might cure your cough!
Musk Bush, Misty Plume Bush, Ginger Bush - a highly aromatic shrub with ginger-scented velvet leaves and showy white flowers, used medicinally: for respiratory (inhalations), and as relaxant (especially with Psychotria viridis). Easy to grow, wonderful fragrance! This fragrant African healer has soft, velvety leaves and a sweet ginger-musk scent. Traditionally used by the Zulu people for respiratory relief, relaxation, headaches, and stomach issues, it's a powerful plant with real medicinal value. Fast-growing and easy to care for, it produces showy white to lilac flower spikes and thrives in sun or partial shade. Drought-tolerant once established, it does well in pots and should be pruned after blooming to keep it bushy and blooming. A true healing Musk - from Africa, like Elon!

Finally, an Ixora that doesn't demand full sun! Ixora Shady Lady is a unique tropical hybrid prized for its ability to bloom beautifully in light to moderate shade, where most other Ixoras struggle to flower. Dense clusters of mildly fragrant, nearly pure white, star-shaped blooms cover the plant for much of the year, creating a bright, elegant display in shaded gardens, patios, and entryways.
Developed from Ixora odorata seedlings, this compact shrub features lush, broad green foliage and a naturally full, rounded habit. Jasmine Molle, Indian Jui - one of the strongest fragrance of all jasmines. Grows into a large multi-stem bush, or can be planted against trellis or fence. Can be trimmed for compact shape, nice container plant. Flowers have extremely heavy gardenia type scent.
One of the most powerfully fragrant jasmines, Jasminum molle produces clusters of satin-white blooms with an intense gardenia-like scent. This rare, fast-growing shrub can be grown in pots, as a hedge, or shaped into a compact bush. Blooms appear in summer with additional flushes in fall and winter. Easy to grow in sun or shade, and tolerant of both moist and dry conditions. Sacred in India, its flowers are used in garlands, religious offerings, and perfumes. A must-have for any fragrant garden.

New hybrid between Arabian Nights and Grand Duke. We got the mother plant from our customer from India. Finally have it propagated. This variety has low, bushy growth habit. Vigorous once established, lots of flowers. Full sun.

Arabian Tea jasmine. This variety is vining and fast growing; tolerates shade.
Called pikake in Hawaii, this is the plant used to flavor the jasmine tea and making perfumes. Perfect houseplant, takes both sun or shade, Jasminum Sambac is a beautiful fragrant everbloomer for your home and garden. Maid of Orleans has single flowers of rich fragrance on woody vining shrubs with wide oval dark green leaves; considered the the easiest to bloom indoors, since it can tolerate shady conditions. It is the famous "Jasminum sambac Multiplex" in French perfume; traditionally the Chinese use this form to make aromatic jasmine tea. This variety has vining habit, and unless trimmed, can shoot several feet long branches.Collect the flowers for your morning jasmine tea!

J. simplicifolium, Wax Jasmine - nice hedge plant with waxy leaves and fragrant white flowers. A quick-growing vine with glossy, dark green foliage, can be grown on a trellis, used as a ground cover, or planted in a container. Blooms from April to September. The 1 inch wide, white, pinwheel shaped flowers with a fine sweet scent.

Peregrina is an evergreen shrub or small tree with glossy leaves and clusters of star shaped bright scarlet flowers about 1 in across that are borne in multi-flowered terminal clusters almost all year round. Compacta is a smaller, more compact cultivar. Peregrina is tolerant of a wide variety of soils as long as they are well drained. Blooms on the current year's growth so it can be pruned at any time of the year.

Coral Jatropha - small, miniature tree or medium size shrub. Red flowers look like corals, followed by curious yellow fruit. Exotic looking specimen plant, easy to grow, very tropical look. Drought tolerant. Can be grown in a pot, makes a nice palm-looking house plant.

Gold Finger plant - unusual looking vine or shrub with yellow-orange fleshy flowers, everblooming and a fast growing. Very rare, collectible plant.

Pink Jacobinia, Pink Brazilian Plume Flower. Spectacular pink flowers from late spring to fall. Butterfly and hummingbird attractor. The plant is relatively cold hardy to light freeze and grows back from roots even if leaves are damaged.

Michelia Figo, Banana Magnolia. Spring-blooming, heavily scented, cream flowers streaked with purple. The banana shrub is so called because of the distinctive, sweet banana scent of its flowers. The plant is cold hardy, prefers filtered light, also a good choice for container culture. See picture of the plant.

Very rare variegated Turk's Cap, Firecracker Hibiscus.
Almost ever-blooming, this shrub looks much like a hibiscus (to which it is closely related) which flowers are ready to open. In fact, the flowers never open much, hence the common name of Sleepy Hibiscus. It blooms often, and the flowers attract hummingbirds. The 2 inch long tubular flowers appear to be constructed of crimson crepe paper as they nod against the large oval leaves, some leaves can be completely white! The little tree looks like decorated Christmas tree!
Can be kept compact shape and is good for container culture and bonsai.

At times, it is mistakenly referred to as Yucca, which is a non-edible plant from the Agave plant family.

Brazilian plume, Brazilian red cloak - blooming size plants. This small to medium size shrub has large leathery leaves and spike of crimson to mauve flowers. It is amazingly hardy for such tropical looking plant and can survive light freeze without damage.

Swiss cheese plant. A jungle climbing relative of the philodendron from Mexico and Guatemala. It is seen in gardens in tropical and subtropical areas, growing well in partial sun or shade. The plant begins bearing after three years. The large deep green, cone-like fruit is actually an unripened flower spike, covered with hexagonal scales that dry out and separate as the fruit ripens from the base upwards, revealing the white pulp. It takes a little longer than a year to mature to an edible stage.

This is true tropical shrub with small yellow flowers and brightly colored large red bracts that make the plant spectacular bloomer. Flowering season from Spring to Fall. Won't tolerate freeze, however planted in protected areas it is worth the care efforts!

Beautiful white hybrid of Mussaenda - Dona Aurora. Medium size shrub with lush soft foliage and bright orange star-like flowers, surrounded by large white bracts. The plant is sensitive to freeze. Can be grown in container. Requires good drainage and prefers to be on a dry side.
