Artocarpus x integer Cheena cv. TopTrop - seeds

Small tree 10-20 ftFull sunSemi-shadeRegular waterEdible

FRESH SEEDS! Cheena is a natural hybrid between jackfruit and chempedak. Comes true from seed.
This highly recommended variety has grown in TopTropicals garden from a seedling of Cheena (Jackfruit x Chempedak) that fruited within 3 years from planting. The fruit (20-25" size) is probably the best we ever tasted! It is super sweet, crunchy and has a rich, pleasant, excellent flavor. It has very little latex which makes it easy to handle when cutting up. The tree produces at the very base of the trunk, so you can prune it as short as you want. Our tree survived light frosts as well as 48 hours of 3ft flooding, with no damage!

What is grafted plant

Q: What is a grafted plant?

Grafting is a method of vegetative (or asexual) propagation where a piece of one plant (scion) selected for its flowers or fruit and containing the desired genes to be duplicated is inserted into a piece of another plant (rootstock), with a strong vigorous root system, usually a seedling.

Benefits of the graft:

  • making a clone of the parent plant ensures the same cultivar, since most fruit trees will not come true to seed
  • taking a scion from a mature plant reduces time to flowering and fruiting (from 10-12 years for a seedling to 2-3 years or less for a grafted plant)
  • introducing dwarfing, hardiness, disease and pest resistance.
  • easier propagation method when other means like cutting or seed is not successful

Wild Maracuja, Love-in-a-mist, Granadilla colorada. Passiflora foetida is a climbing and flowering perennial vine that has pink flowers and small edible fruit. These orange fruits, although much smaller, taste the same as those from passiflora edulis. The seeds are very small and black, embedded in juicy pulp; the stems and leaves are covered with yellow hair. The leaves, which are three-lobed, have an unpleasant odor when crushed, hence the name foetida which means stinky. There are some medicinal applications of Passiflora foetida. In Suriname's traditional medicine, a tea of the leaves is used as an expectorant and for nervous disorders.

It is cultivated in tropical regions as a hedge plant and for its deep red acid fruits resembling small plums. The fruits are about one inch wide and can be eaten fresh or made into preserves. They are sweet and sour, with a texture and flavor similar to a plum. Fruits mature after one to two months from flowering.
The tree is easy to grow, self-fertile and doesn't require much care, not fussy about soil and very forgiving if you forget to water it.
Seeds germinate readily, but it takes a while until the seedling is ready to be transplanted into a big pot or in the ground, a few months.

If the flower is pollinated (normally by flies if the plant is outside) it will take 1 year for the plant to mature its seeds. The seed stalk is very pretty with the seeds changing colors from green to red. During this time the tuber will not produce a leaf.

The Brazilian Starfish is a uniquely shaped pepper. This is one beautiful chili with a shape much like a sea star. It's a lovely quirkiness - sort of an unexpected, but well-appreciated twist to the typical rounded chili - and, because of that, it works very well as an ornamental pepper. But unlike many ornamentals that sacrifice nuanced taste for looks, the Brazilian starfish is simply delicious too. Sweet, almost fruity with an eatable level of heat for most people. Packing looks and flavor makes this chili pepper well sought after by spicy foodies and gardeners alike.
This tall plant has a vine-like habit and produces good yields of 1-2 inch wide starfish-shaped peppers that ripen to a brilliant red at maturity.

Toothache Plant, Botox Plant. A medicinal herb that has been used for generations to manage the pain of toothaches. Both the leaves and the attractive golden flowers can be used as a natural anesthetic. Simply chew the leaves or flowers for a few seconds then you will experience a tingling and numbing sensation in your mouth. Cooked leaves lose their strong flavor and may be used as leafy greens. Both fresh and cooked leaves are used in dishes such as stews in northern Brazil. Flavor is described as having an odor of citrus, herbal, tropical or musty odor, and its taste can be pungent, cooling, tingling, numbing, or effervescent. Acmella Oleracea extract is considered a natural alternative to Botox. Applied topically, Acmella Oleracea reportedly reduces muscle tension, reducing facial wrinkles caused by tense or contracted facial muscles. Can be grown in a container and as a houseplant.
