Orchid Cactus, Thanksgiving Cactus, Christmas Cactus, Crab Cactus...
Spectacular, large-flower variety that flowers twice a season, 'New Deal' is a remarkable "Christmas cactus" hybrid, completely lost to the trade today, which is being offered here for the first time after it was originally offered for purchase at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden over 80 years ago. That institution was having a special rare plant sale on the day of the famous presidential election on November 8, 1932, when F.D.R. was historically voted in as the next American president. Not only is New Deal an exceptionally obscure, heirloom cultivar especially easy to grow under average house plant conditions, it reliably produces almost an overabundance of brilliant violet-pink and white flowers which are easily an inch larger than any other variety. The plants we are offering are all 3rd generation vegetative propagation from an original specimen (still alive btw). Its name is identical to President Franklin D. Roosevel main campaign slogan.

Bizarreness! The Ribbon Bush is a terrific, leaf-less plant from the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific with long, flattened stems resembling tapeworms - hence its nickname "Tapeworm Plant". It's hard to capture the unusual beauty of this plant in pictures. This is an awesome, offbeat plant that will get people asking: "What the heck is that??". This plant needs very little care, makes a great houseplant, and is very hard to find.

An exceptionally distinct pepper, it is likely an ancient hybrid of Capsicum annuum (bird pepper) and Capsicum chinense (habanero group).
While of small size (something around an inch or so long), these oddly shaped bright orange to finally red fruits are prolifically produced along the branches of compact plants with small leaves.
What separates this variety from others is its unique flavor which packs quite a bang! Not because of its heat (because our strain has either no heat what-so-ever, or so little it is hard to even detect), but because of its intense fruity habanero flavor.
If one who knows that distinct habanero super fruit flavor (which is then normally followed by the heat blast), then tries a biquinho pepper, the flavor is so distinctly habanero that when the heat blast doesn

Nepenthes x St. Gaya is a compact, easy-to-grow hybrid of N. khsiana x (ventricosa x maxima). It is a vigorous growing carnivorous tropical pitcher plant with large upright pitchers with cherry red speckles on yellow-green backgrounds. The trap mouths are wide and oval. Its parent species are quite adaptable, growing in the open or shade, among grasses and shrubs. It is very cold tolerant, but prefers warm, humid, bright conditions. It is quite good at catching large insects, such as: stink bugs, wasps and yellow jackets. It is a great house plant, that can be grown outdoors in the warm weather with a minimal transition period. It is a good Nepenthes for beginners.
Do not fertilize these plants with dry fertilizer! They get all their food from "eating" insects! If you are growing the plant where it cannot catch insects for long periods, you can add an occasional small insect such as a fly, a cockroach or a few very small insects to mature pitchers. Many types benefit from very mild, diluted liquid orchid fertilizer such as SUNSHINE Orchidasm, and solution should be added only to the pitchers when they are 3/4 filled with water.

This crazy little cactus makes a wonderful hanging basket specimen and quite the conversation piece with its twisted, arching limbs. A night bloom epiphytic cactus with curly twisting leaves, Epiphyllum curly locks is an example of a cactus that uses its stems to capture more moisture and light. The plant has curly, curved stems which are the result of a mutation of a plant called Epiphyllum guatemalense. The name for this mutated cactus is Epiphyllum monstrosa - a jungle cactus native to Guatemala and will attach itself to a tree and live off of the composting debris that collects in the crook of the tree. Commonly called Orchid Cactus due to the blooms resembling orchid blossoms. The flowers are fragrant and usually open at night. Oval, bright pink seedy fruits form once blooms are pollinated. These fruits are juicy and edible. The plant is also self-pollinating and fruits can form even without the intervention of insects and mammals.
Epiphyllum are sensitive to being moved so choosing spot in bright, indirect light would work best. Epiphyllum will also only bloom when root bound, so take this into consideration when repotting.

Prolific Hardy Kiwi is valued for its self fertility. Prolific fruit is dark green all the way through. Hardy Kiwi likes half day to full sun and well-drained soil. The plants need a strong trellis and can spread 10-12 ft when mature. Prolific Kiwi, a self-pollinating variety, is early ripening and produces abundant crops of medium to large, sweet and tasty fruit. The cultivar is sometimes used as a pollinator for other female cultivars. Fruits are flavorful with reddish/violet on the skin and flesh when ripe. Minimum chilling requirements 300 hours. These Kiwi have smooth-skinned fruits so there is no need to peel the skin of the fruits unlike the fuzzy fruit species Actinidia deliciosa. Fruits vary in size and are similar to several varieties of grapes. Plant stems and fruit buds are more cold tolerant than the A. deliciosa species and are mainly grown in colder areas where the cold temperatures can range from 10-18F. Fruit flavors are of course different with every cultivar, similar to all fruits.
The Hardy Mini Kiwi Prolific can bear fruit the first year after planting. It produces smooth-skinned fruit the size of large grapes in late summer to early fall, great for fresh eating, salads, dessert or jelly. Kiwi plants are attractive growers that require a sunny location, preferably with wind protection. They can be grown in different types of soils; however, the soil must be well drained. Kiwi plants are very pretty when used to cover a wall or fence or used in landscape design. Less aggressive than other kiwi varieties, Prolific is easily trained and ideal for trellises or fences.

Climbing by attaching its roots to the host tree, this epiphyte can reach a height 9 ft. It has pendent stems, and small button-like, silver-grey leaves. This little vine has cute little coin shaped leaves. It can be grown as a hanging basket or pot, or on moss or bark. It likes bright light but not direct sun over the plant. The mix needs to be kept moderately dry between waterings. They don't like too much water and misting the plant once or twice a week should do the job. Liquid feeding once a month with half strength is adequate. It is also good for terrariums.

Colocasia Tea Cup (or Coffee Cups) has cupped up leaves. It is one of a kind, for sure! The leaves hold themselves very upright in an inverted cup like pose. They will fill up with water and then slightly tip over and pour it out. Tea Cup can put on a spectacular show. When the sun shines down on Tea Cup leaves, it illuminates the leaf tissue around the dark purple veins, which gives it a very spectacular look. This is just one of those plants that were its architectural form will blow you away!
The stems are dark maroon and look almost black.

Cissus discolor, native to Java and Cambodia, is a fast growing, exotic looking, trailing vine, which is sometimes called Tapestry Vine or Rex Begonia Vine. It is not a begonia, but the medium sized lance shaped leaves have the bright colors of Rex Begonia leaves. The leaves are dark green with silver and purple blotches. It makes a gorgeous hanging basket. Thanks to its large, striking leaves and climbing growth, Cissus discolor has become a popular houseplant. The leaves and stems produce a natural secretion, tiny opaque dots, called cystolyths. Grow this Cissus in a hanging basket or let it climb up a trellis.

Native to western Asia, this Pomegranate has it all: naturally dwarfing, beautiful red fruit, small edible seeds, and is consistently rated the most flavorful pomegranate in tasting trials. Great for juicing or fresh eating, producing heavy crops at a young age. Can grow up to 10 feet, but can easily be kept at six to seven feet with pruning. It has extremely showy red/orange flowers followed by large fruit. The fruit is quite large and highly colored in beautiful bright red. The arils are large and bright red with a very small, soft, edible seed. Vigorous upright plant sets a heavy crop dependably. Requires 100 to 200 chill hours. Self-fruitful.

Very sweet, virtually seedless fruit... Even immature fruit are sweet! Red skin, clear, non- staining juice. 8-10 ft. arching shrub, or train as tree or espalier. This tree produces an abundance of beautiful large orange-red flowers over an extended period of time during the spring. The fruit is abundant, almost seedless, clear and non-staining with red skin. Immature fruit is also sweet making this variety a great choice for cool or coastal climates. Both the flowers and the fruit are produced at a very young age. Eversweet prefers full sun for best fruit production but will tolerate some light shade. Very drought tolerant once established. It is adaptable to any type of well drained soil. The tree is self-fruitful but production is increased with a second tree planted nearby. Harvest late summer through fall.

Also known as the Honey Fig, the yellow long neck fig yields large round fruit with a long neck. The yellow fruit has a thin skin and sweet amber flesh. It is favored among fig lovers for its sweetness. This tree is self pollinating and grows to a height of 4'-8' when mature. It's a vigorous grower and prolific fruiter that makes an ideal plant for the home garden, and it can be grown in the ground or in a large container.
Producing figs twice a year giving you more bang for your buck. A very sweet and delicious fig, we find it superior to the Ischia and Celeste. Figs are best eaten right off the tree, but if allowed to make it to the kitchen, the fruit makes a stupendous jam, pie or pan fried for an addition to any dish.
Grow in full sun for optimum fruiting. Hardy in zones 7-10.

The Boysenberry is a cross among the European raspberry (Rubus idaeus), European blackberry (Rubus fruticosus), American dewberry (Rubus aboriginum), and loganberry (Rubus × loganobaccus). A prolific producer of sweet-tart, large, reddish black fruit in midsummer on second year growth. The beautiful bountiful berries sit against dark green foliage that make this plant not only useful but beautiful. Plant them as a hedge or border or even in a container for decadent berries at your fingertips. This vine is self fertile and grows and matures very quickly. You can expect fruit as early as its second season. Small white flowers precede the fruit on nearly thornless canes in spring. The fruit can be eaten fresh, cooked, or frozen.
The plant traced back to grower Rudolph Boysen, who obtained the dewberry-loganberry parent from the farm of John Lubben. Boysenberries grow on low, trailing plants and are characterized by their soft texture, thin skins, and sweet-tart flavor. Very large, fragile, purple berry with few seeds. Although this variety is named thorn-less, there are truly no thorn-less Boysenberries. However, this variety has far fewer and smaller thorns than other varieties. USDA zones 5-10.

Monocostus uniflorus, Costus uniflorus. This is a soft and delicate small ginger growing with spiral stems and dark green, oval thick leaves which are about 2 inches to 2.5 inches long. Large, single lemon-yellow flowers emerge at the tip of stems of graceful texture spring from a spiraling cone. It will bloom almost all year and will make a beautiful free full blooming hanging basket.

Laos Silver Stripe is certainly one of the most beautiful of all the Kaempferia angustifolia cultivars. It is one of the large types and have boldly striped leaves of green and silver. The flowers are typical for the species, orchid shaped white and purple flowers that most often occur towards the beginning of the season. This hard to find variety is a must for any Peacock Ginger collector!
The Kaempferia angustifolia complex is full of many cultivars and wild forms that range from tiny green leaf plants, the size and shape of the leaves varies greatly between cultivars as well.
