Voodoo lily, Devils tongue, Snake Palm, Corpse flower. The unpleasant smell that the flower omits is only present for a few hours after the flower opens. If the flower is pollinated (normally by flies if the plant is outside) it will take 1 year for the plant to mature its seeds. The seed stalk is very pretty with the seeds changing colors from green to red. During this time the tuber will not produce a leaf.

Capsicum baccatum, Brazilian Starfish - seeds

Small shrub 2-5 ftFull sunSemi-shadeRegular waterModerate waterIrritatingEdibleSubtropical, cold hardy at least to 30s F for a short time

The Brazilian Starfish is a uniquely shaped pepper. This is one beautiful chili with a shape much like a sea star. It's a lovely quirkiness - sort of an unexpected, but well-appreciated twist to the typical rounded chili - and, because of that, it works very well as an ornamental pepper. But unlike many ornamentals that sacrifice nuanced taste for looks, the Brazilian starfish is simply delicious too. Sweet, almost fruity with an eatable level of heat for most people. Packing looks and flavor makes this chili pepper well sought after by spicy foodies and gardeners alike.
This tall plant has a vine-like habit and produces good yields of 1-2 inch wide starfish-shaped peppers that ripen to a brilliant red at maturity.

Toothache Plant, Botox Plant. A medicinal herb that has been used for generations to manage the pain of toothaches. Both the leaves and the attractive golden flowers can be used as a natural anesthetic. Simply chew the leaves or flowers for a few seconds then you will experience a tingling and numbing sensation in your mouth. Cooked leaves lose their strong flavor and may be used as leafy greens. Both fresh and cooked leaves are used in dishes such as stews in northern Brazil. Flavor is described as having an odor of citrus, herbal, tropical or musty odor, and its taste can be pungent, cooling, tingling, numbing, or effervescent. Acmella Oleracea extract is considered a natural alternative to Botox. Applied topically, Acmella Oleracea reportedly reduces muscle tension, reducing facial wrinkles caused by tense or contracted facial muscles. Can be grown in a container and as a houseplant.

Chamaedorea tepejilote - seeds

Small tree 10-20 ftFull sunSemi-shadeRegular waterPalm or palm-likeUnknown name

Pacaya palm - is found in the understory of the forests of southern Mexico, Central America, and northern Colombia. The immature male inflorescences of the plant are considered a delicacy in Guatemala and El Salvador. The unopened inflorescences resemble an ear of corn in appearance and size. Indeed, the word tepejilote means "mountain maize" in the Nahuatl language and was selected because of this resemblance. "Pacaya," the common name for both the plant and its edible flower could be derived from the volcano of that name.
Pacaya has a somewhat bitter taste, although less so in cultivated varieties. It is eaten in salads (especially fiambre, a salad traditionally eaten in Guatemala on the Day of the Dead) or covered in egg batter and fried. The latter dish is called "rellenos de pacaya" and is often served with tomato sauce, like chiles rellenos.

Golden Dewdrop. The popular name of this large erect shrub is inspired by the clusters of bright orange-yellow berries that follow the flowers, in such quantities that they often cause the slender branches to droop gracefully. The lavender-blue or white flowers appear in loose clusters, and both berries and blossoms are often seen on a plant. This evergreen fast-growing shrub spreads and arches to 10 feet tall and wide and is great for live hedges and covering fences and corners.

Leucaena leucocephala - seeds

Big tree > 20 ftSmall tree 10-20 ftFull sunSemi-shadeRegular waterModerate waterWhite/off-white flowers

Wild Tamarind, Lead Tree. Arborescent deciduous small tree or shrub, flowers numerous, axillary on long stalks, white, in dense global heads 1" across. It is used as a shade plant in coffee, rubber, cacao, and cinchona plantations, for reforestation, windbreaks and firebreaks. Necklaces are made with the seeds. Leadtree is valued as an excellent protein source for cattle fodder, consumed browsed or harvested, mature or immature, green or dry. The nutritive value is equal to or superior to alfalfa. Adapts well to a wide range of tropical and subtropical environments, especially seasonally dry tropical areas. Some seedlings less than one-year old will produce viable seed. Seeds remain viable from several months to several years. The hard waxy seedcoat makes scarification necessary before planting. The easiest and most common method is to scald seed in boiling or near boiling water. Boiling water is poured directly over the seed and allowed to cool to room temperature (preferably overnight), followed by sowing. Alternatively, small numbers of seed may be scarified by nicking which involves the use of a knife or secateur to clip off a small portion of the seed coat at the end opposite the pod attachment scar (hilum).
