Close related to Phaleria clerodendron, Phaleria octandra is a shrub or small tree found in tropical Australia. Grows up to 10-12 ft tall. White fragrant flowers form from November to February, then they turn brown. Attractive red fruit form from March to April. The interesting greyish purple coloring of the undersides of its leaves when grown in habitat or cultivated under the optimum conditions. Blessed with colorful inflorescence for those who are adept enough to grow them to maturity. This species does best in lower temperatures (68 72F) with pH under 7 in order to maintain its color. Use a well-drained potting mix and apply Sunshine Power-Si to keep pH between 5.5.-6.5.

Phyllanthus acidus - Otaheite Gooseberry, Amlak - is very close related to Phyllanthus emblica (Amla, Amlaki), however it is much hardier plant. Known as amritphala in Sanskrit, which literally means the fruit of heaven or nectar fruit. It is so called because it is rich in many desirable properties, including medicinal.
Small to medium in size tree. Small tropical tree, to 20 feet. Fruits are borne in loose clusters, which hang from the tree trunk and main branches. Fruits are generally too tart for fresh eating but are esteemed for jellies, preserves and pastries. There are no commercial plantings; only in home gardens.
Amla fruit paste is a major ingredient of Chavyanprash, a popular Ayurvedic tonic. It is the richest source of vitamin C. Phyllanthus acidus is called Ari Nelli in Tamil, and the Phyllanthus emblica (Amlaki) is Muzhu Nelli in Tamil. Muzhu Nelli is even richer in Vitamin C etc.

Pinanga disticha is a charming little palm native to peninsular Thailand and Malaysia and also found in Singapore and Sumatra. It is a dwarf collectible growing to a height of about 4 ft. Often found in the moist areas and beside streams in deep shade of down to 30-40% light infiltration from the canopy. Very thin stemmed small palm, forms a thick clump. This rare hybrid of Pinanga is a new discovery from the rainforests of Sarawak, Malaysia with beautifully mottled leaves and unusual blue fruits when ripe and widely spaced leaflets. Prefers warm Tropical/Subtropical climate. A must for a rare palm collector, a show stopper! Blue is not a very common color in a garden, and more unusual when seen on a palm. These infructescences really stand out and attract a lot of comments. This palm is an easy grow with an attractive habit.
