Mimosa pudica (strigillosa) - Sensitive Plant

Groundcover and low-growing 2ftFull sunSemi-shadeRegular waterPink flowersAttracts butterflies, hummingbirds

Sensitive Plant. It is a fun plant to grow. The leaves fold up when touched. If touched with a bit more force, the petioles will also bend at their pulvinis and the leaves droop. These movements are called seismonastic movements (reaction to physical shock). At night, the leaves will also fold and bend in movements known as nyctonastic movements (reaction to absence of light). It is a wonderful groundcover, can integrate with grass and pink powderpuff flowers stick out of grass - very showy! Can be mowed over with no damage to established plants.
Close related to Mimosa pudica - Mimosa strigillosa, very similar looking. It is also sensitive to touch but the growth
habit is prostrate and the leaf arrangement is not palmate. The leaves of Mimosa pudica are palmate. We carry both species, mixed variety.

Moujean Tea, Bahamas Berry, Pineapple Verbena. Evergreen shrub, native to the island of Inagua in the Bahamas. It is often used as a bonsai plant due to its miniaturized features. Tiny white flowers are borne in clusters in summer. It prefers full sun, warmth and high humidity. Wants to be consistently moist to wet and never, never dry. If grown indoors it will appreciate warm feet during winter (try a heat mat). A decoction of the fragrant leaves, variously described as having the scent and flavor of citrus, vanilla, or pineapple, is used as an herbal tea.
A good choice for a small topiary or bonsai.

Neomarica gracilis - African Iris

Small shrub 2-5 ftFull sunShadeSemi-shadeRegular waterModerate waterWhite/off-white flowersBlue/lavender/purple flowersUnusual color

From the Iris family comes this Neomarica with sword shaped leaves and fragrant flowers. The delicate flowers last only a day but the plant continues to form new blooms for long periods of time during late spring months. Makes also an excellent houseplant. This is not a water Iris, be careful not to overwater. Neomarica gracilis is a type of walking Iris. Once the flower is spent, the stem that it was born on lays to the ground and from that a new plant is formed. For that reason it is said to be walking across your garden. You can divide plants and plant them in new locations.

Pitcher plant does well in both cooler or warmer conditions. Tubby pitchers may be constricted at the waist, pale green to red-infused, while the stems are compact. Nepenthes are extremely versatile and adaptable to many different growing conditions. The number one choice to try on a windowsill or tank, very easy, vigorous and attractive.
Do not fertilize this plant! It gets all its food from "eating" insects!
