Ixora variegata Thai Snow

Large shrub 5-10 ftSmall shrub 2-5 ftFull sunSemi-shadeModerate waterPink flowersWhite/off-white flowersRed/crimson/vinous flowersYellow/orange flowersFragrantAttracts butterflies, hummingbirdsSeaside, salt tolerant plantUnknown name

The Thai Snow Ixora is a rare and lesser known Ixora Hybrid from Thailand. It has small rounded leaves glossy medium to deep green leaves that vary from splashed and speckled with white variegation to almost solid creamy white new growth.
The growth habit is semi-dwarf, maturing at around 2 feet with and a dense, tight, growth habit. It blooms in clusters of white to near white star shaped florets beginning in early summer. The flowers are nectar rich and attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Its best and most interesting feature however is the variegated foliage and slower growth habit. This is one makes especially nice potted plants and works well as in light shade to brighten and add texture. It does not bloom as prolifically and is not as showy as most of the green leaved ixoras, so the primary feature to consider when placing is the strikingly pretty variegated leaves which vary from being lightly mottled and sprinkled cream on the older to leaves to near solid creamy white barely dusted with emerald green.

Ligustrum Jack Frost is a very striking evergreen shrub that makes a wonderful hedge and looks equally as nice all by itself as an accent planting. Shiny, leathery green leaves have creamy white edges, providing an excellent contrast to any landscape. In late spring and early summer, it puts out clusters of small, white flowers very similar to those of its ancestor, the Japanese Privet. Following the spring bloom, berries persist through the summer and attract birds. Moderate growth, takes either full sun or part shade. A very versatile landscape plant for hedges, foundation plantings, topiary or screens. Hard to beat for adding form, adaptability and color contrast to the landscape. It is disease resistant and grows well in a wide variety of soil types and climates. With a full and upright form, it makes an ideal mid-size hedge but is extremely versatile and can also be planted by itself as an accent and foundation planting. Mature specimen tend to take on a more golden yellow color as the leaves mature. It adds bulk to the landscape when desired while adding great color to the landscape. Pruning is recommended 2-3 times per year to maintain desired shape.

A wonderful little plant, unusual among grasses. It folds leaves sharply downwards at night. One of the rarest plants in existance, it is technically a Bamboosoid grass which genetic studies have shown to be the original mother of all modern bamboo species! It is easy to grow given bright light or even deep shade. The plant remains very rare since the new species was described by Tom Soderstrom from an obscure locality deep in the forests of Honduras...
