Caper. This shrubby perennial plant grows 3-5 feet high, with numerous branches, bearing a pair of hooked spines at the base of each leaf stalk. Flowers are about 2 inches in diameter, white with numerous violet stamens, and very pleasing in appearance. Plants grow well in nutrient poor sharply-drained gravelly soils. Capers are salt-tolerant and flourish along shores within sea-spray zones. Capers of commerce are immature flower buds which have been pickled in vinegar or preserved in granular salt.
Plant seeds in 1/2" coarse sand / loose soil mixture. Requires full sun. Native to dry regions so water only occasionally - never keeping it wet. It is a poor germinator and may take months to germinate. To improve germination, soak seeds overnight in hot water, then wrap in cloth and store in a sealed jar for 3 months in the refrigerator, and finally - soak again in hot water overnight and plant.

Capsicum baccatum, Brazilian Starfish - seeds

Small shrub 2-5 ftFull sunSemi-shadeRegular waterModerate waterIrritatingEdibleSubtropical, cold hardy at least to 30s F for a short time

The Brazilian Starfish is a uniquely shaped pepper. This is one beautiful chili with a shape much like a sea star. It's a lovely quirkiness - sort of an unexpected, but well-appreciated twist to the typical rounded chili - and, because of that, it works very well as an ornamental pepper. But unlike many ornamentals that sacrifice nuanced taste for looks, the Brazilian starfish is simply delicious too. Sweet, almost fruity with an eatable level of heat for most people. Packing looks and flavor makes this chili pepper well sought after by spicy foodies and gardeners alike.
This tall plant has a vine-like habit and produces good yields of 1-2 inch wide starfish-shaped peppers that ripen to a brilliant red at maturity.

Habanero Pepper is a variety of chili pepper. Unripe habaneros are green, and they color as they mature. Common colors are orange and red. Habanero chilis are intensely hot, rated 100,000-350,000 on the Scoville scale.
Habaneros thrive in hot weather. As with all peppers, the habanero does well in an area with good morning sun and in soil with a pH level around 5 to 6 (slightly acidic). The habanero should be watered only when dry. Overly moist soil and roots will produce bitter-tasting peppers. The habanero is a perennial flowering plant, meaning that with proper care and growing conditions, it can produce flowers (and thus fruit) for many years. Habanero bushes are good candidates for a container garden. In temperate climates, though, it is treated as an annual, dying each winter and being replaced the next spring. In tropical and subtropical regions, the habanero, like other chiles, will produce year round. As long as conditions are favorable, the plant will set fruit continuously.
Broadcast seeds on the surface of soil, barely cover. Provide bright light, keep moist and warm.

The serrano pepper is a type of chili pepper that originated in the mountainous regions of the Mexican states of Puebla and Hidalgo. The name of the pepper is a reference to the mountains (sierras) of these regions. Each plant can hold up to fifty pepper pods. Unripe serrano peppers are green, but the color at maturity varies. Common colors are green, red, brown, orange, or yellow.
A typical serrano pepper plant will grow to about a foot and a half. A single plant can yield dozens of peppers and they can be harvested while they are green or red.
The serrano pepper's Scoville rating is 10,000 to 25,000. Their flavor is crisp, bright, and biting, notably hotter than the jalapeo pepper, and they are typically eaten raw. Serrano peppers are also commonly used in making pico de gallo. It is also commonly used in making salsa, as the chili is particularly fleshy compared to others, making it ideal for such dishes.
It is one of the most used chili peppers in Mexico.

Safflower, Carthamine. Safflower is a highly branched, herbaceous, thistle-like annual plant. It is commercially cultivated for vegetable oil extracted from the seeds. Plants are 12 to 59 in tall with globular flower heads having yellow, orange, or red flowers. Safflower is one of humanity's oldest crops. Chemical analysis of ancient Egyptian textiles dated to the Twelfth Dynasty identified dyes made from safflower, and garlands made from safflowers were found in the tomb of the pharaoh Tutankhamun.
