Also known as Negronne, Violet de Bordeaux is a purplish-black fruit with rich strawberry pulp. Considered by many the finest tasting fig. Popular in the Northwest and West. Needs protection in cold winter areas. Good for home planting as tree is dwarf. Similar fruit to Black Mission, but hardier and a smaller size tree than Mission.
It is the best fig cultivar if you have a small growing space or wish to grow the tree in a container. Grown in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 7 through 10, this small fig grows to only 6 to 10 feet tall and 6 feet wide. The late-ripening fruits feature purplish-black skin, strawberry flesh and a rich, sweet flavor. The Marseilles fig is a half-hardy, deciduous shrub that produces small, greenish-yellow-white figs. The ornate leaf and upright habit make for a very nice looking plant. The greenish-yellow skin on the fruit helps to keep the birds form beating the grower to the fruit.
Figs are prized for their delicious fruit, which can be one to three inches in length, violet, brown or black. Most fruits are borne from early summer to late fall on new growth, and the fruits generally mature very quickly. The lovely lobed green leaves make it valuable in the landscape even without its fruit. They are very large, prominently veined and deeply lobed and may be 8 to 10 inches long. The fig makes a splendid patio or indoor plant that grows with little attention, save for constantly moist soil and bright light. Prefers alkaline, well-drained soil, but can tolerate wet conditions (waterlogging). Trees are very sensitive to frost when actively growing, but can withstand 10F when dormant.

Related to the mangosteen, the Forest Garcinia originated from Pondoland in the Eastern Cape and is very rare even in exclusive collections. It is difficult to propagate. It has fragrant flowers in early summer, decorative orange fruits in winter, glossy foliage with attractive pale green new growth and it is easy to grow. This species is used in traditional medicine.
Evergreen shrub suitable for semi-shade or shade, it is easy to grow, but slow growing, which makes it more manageable and suitable for smaller gardens as well as larger gardens and parks. It also does well in containers. Grow it in a warm spot, in semi-shade or shade, in well-drained, fertile soils, and water well in spring and summer. Garcinia gerrardii is suitable for pot cultivation and with its slow growth, deep green foliage and showy fruits, it would make an interesting substitute for decorative citrus in pots. It is also a good choice for a difficult position in deep shade.

Achacha, Achachairu. Small, prolifically-fruiting tree related to the Mangosteen. The taste is described as both bitter and sweet and is somewhat reminiscent of lemonade. The rather tough, bitter rind can be split open with a knife or with the teeth, and the edible part of the fruit sucked off the seed. The Achacha is in season from December to mid-March.
The small tree with a pyramidal canopy is prolifically-fruiting. It grows in the southern part of the Amazon basin in the central area of Bolivia. Achachas are tangy and refreshing with a delicate subtle sweetness, a fine balance between sweetness and acidity, producing an unusual taste sensation. Fruit should be picked mature as it does not ripen further on storage. In addition to having a great flavor, Achacha fruit has more flesh relative to its weight, when compared to the renowned purple mangosteen. Its rind is also palatable and easily utilized for beverages. The Bolivian name of the fruit is Achachairu and translated means honey kiss in Guarani language. Nutritionally, Achachas are valuable source of vitamin C and folate, as well as potassium, riboflaving and antioxidants.
Easy to grow in south Florida and must have for every tropical fruit lover. Grows well in a container.

Gynura crepioides is commonly known as Okinawa Spinach, it is native to Indonesia. Okinawa Spinach is commercially grown in China as a green, it is not a true spinach. Both the stems and the leaves can be eaten raw or cooked. The top of the leaves are dark green and the undersides are purple. Okinawa Spinach has an unique flavor with a faint hint of pine, and will add a beautiful aesthetic element to cuisine. This green is also known as cholesterol spinach, and there are many claims that it lowers can cholesterol. This plant will thrive in pretty much any type of soil from clay to silt to sandy soils. It does well in any type of light other than full shade, but will grow best in full sun to partial shade. Okinawa Spinach is not a heavy feeder, and is relatively pest-free. It is good to cut back flowering branches to promote new shoot growth, because the shoots and leaves are what are harvested. Okinawan spinach is very adaptable to container gardening and even grows well on a windowsill. The younger leaves will have a much better flavor than the older leaves. The leaves and young shoot tips can be steamed, used in stir fry, tempura, stews, and soups. Just add them at the very end, if they are overcooked they can become slimy.

Tricia is a Dragon Fruit variety developed by Edgar Valdivia, a member of the California Fare Growers Association. It was named after one of his daughters. It is a cross between Hylocereus polyrhizus and a Hylocereus ocamponis and has nearly identical characteristics to the Hylocereus ocamponis. The plant is a strong grower with interesting greyish green stems. The gray coating on the stem help protect the plant from the heat in the summer time and cold in the winter time. These stems are very long thick three sided segments with large spines. Flower budding to flower is 30 days and another 30 days from flower to fruit. When flowering the blooms are very impressive with bright colors and extra-large up to 15 inches in diameter. Once mature the plant flowers during the summer time. The variety is not self-pollinating so it will need help with hand pollination. It is also not self-fertile so it will need pollen from another variety. Once pollinated the fruit is a good size with an average weight of one pound. The fruit is egg shaped with a unique look to it having many small fins. Due to its hybrid crossing the taste of the fruit is different from typical Hylocereus ocamponis. The red fleshed fruit has a nice taste sweetness having no acidity aftertaste.

Purple Haze Dragon Fruit is a hybrid variety that comes from Hylocereus guatemalensis and Hylocereus polyrhizus. It is a variety with purple flesh and bright pink exterior having green fins. The fruit has a refreshing sweet grape type flavor with few small eatable seeds. Fruits are large and can range from 1.0 to 2.0 pounds. For even larger fruit bud thinning is recommended. This variety typically has three fruiting cycles per the calendar year. It is also a very high producer of fruit.
The purple color on the purple dragon fruit indicates that the pigment content level of betalain is so high that it is purple like a beetroot. It has the most health benefits of all pitayas.
