 Neomarica caerulea
Family: Iridaceae
Walking Iris, Twelve apostles, Apostle Plant
Origin: Brazil
Small shrub 2-5 ftFull sunShadeSemi-shadeRegular waterBlue/lavender/purple flowersFlood tolerantSeaside, salt tolerant plant

This species was discovered in Brazil near the ocean in shady sandy soil, so it is salt tolerant. Plants will grow in full sun but foliage color is best in light shade; water regularly. The best specimens seem to be in moist, well drained soil in locations with morning sun and some shade in the afternoon. Their fertilizer requirements are modest. Clumps may be divided but propagation from fresh seed is easy and fairly fast. Plants mature to flowering size from seed in less than a year. Cold hardy only to about 30F.

Variety Regina was introduced by Sid Gardino, and named after his wife, Regina.

Beautiful, no-fuss plant. A neighbor gave me one from his plant... I now have them growing all over my backyard... shade, sun, filtered sun... they are absolutely beautiful -- BUT the bloom lasts only one day. However, you can get 40+ blooms on a plant and they re-bloom, and re-bloom the entire season. I'm now shopping around for other colors!

This plant is so beautiful.I was given a piece of
this plant from my sister-in-law,who stumble upon
it when she started taking care of her mother. We for a long time had no idea what type of plant this was until, she married my brother and moved
to maryland. She meet a friend there whos father new a lot about plants, and told her what it was.
I started with one piece, and now I have a pot full.I keep mine indoors, and give it a spell in the shade during the spring and summer. My sister in law has 17 plants all together in one large pot,and it has bloomed several times, with different color blooms. We have shared some of the pieces with neighbors.Everyone loves this plant.I have yet to get a bloom but waiting
patiently.Very easy to care for.I haven't had any problems thus far.
