A friend gave me a couple of stems, saying to stick them in the ground and they would grow. They did, quickly, to 15'. Quick shade(my banana tree needed some shade at its roots since very hot and sunny), and very prolific large flowers. But major drawback is older leaves turn brown and persevere on the stems. From a near perspective, then, you see tall bare stems, then several feet of stem with dark dead leaves, then another foot of stem with healthy levels, then the blossoms. I end up trying to pull the ugly dead leaves off the stems-if I can reach that high-, but they grow so fast it's impossible to keep up.

Received a stem sunflower tree, it did not have roots, as indicated in the important tips sheet. The plant was dead within a week, but your instructions do not allow us to receive a replacement. This was a gift from our daughter and we hope that no one else orders from you.

Tithonia,is wonderfully drought resistant, easy to root(as our fellow gardener in Tampa relates), pest free, & makes a FAST privacy hedge. The huge honey scented flowers are always there for cutting,& even the foliage has a sweet, balsamic scent. At mid-day, it is a busy butterfly "Starbucks",& I have seen little wrens & finches eating seeds from the dried seedheads. Worth including in your yard to effortlessly draw in all these little guests.

From the first time I saw it I loved it. I have a large plant now in its 3rd year approximately 16 feet wide and 16 feet deep and about 14 feet tall. The old branches fall over and root down and start growing, like a Banyan tree, looks like a hedge of plants but they are all connected to my mother plant. The Flowers are numerous in bloom an smell intoxicatingly like honey. Usually blooms in November, but last year we didn't have frost and it is blooming in May... what a treat! You will need a large area for this plant to be truly happy. The bees and butterfly's come from miles when it is in bloom. There are plenty of blooms to share and bring indoors, better than scented candles.
