Planted as an ornamental or xeriscape plant for its amazing electric-blue flowers. Arid-climate bromeliad, grows to 3-5ft, clumping habit. Leaves are long, with sharp teeth on their sides. Needs minimal water and can survive to 20-25F. Grow in full sun or part shade, should stand temperatures to 100F. Sometimes confused with the larger Puya berteroniana which has much longer (to 4-5 feet) and wider (to 2-3 inches)leaves. Propagation: Seeds.
