This tree produces flowers that are considered sacred by Hindus in worship of god Shiva. Flowers are large, beautiful and have lovely perfume. In the center of flower there is a small thumb like projection which is shaded by a hood like structure carrying pollen. This particular setup resembles Shivlingam shaded by snakehood. Hence the religious importance. Flower does not have any nectar but the bees searching for nectar end up pollinating it. Flower falls off after pollination and thas a large hole in it because it leaves the ball shape fruit on tree.Fruits are hard, inedible and contain numerous seeds inside.Fruits are hard and may hurt like coconut if they fall on someone.Hence tree should not be placed in high traffic area.Fallen fruit should be picked up otherwise there is unpleasent odor and mess .Tree grows slow and can look unkempt. you can see the trees in Fruit and Spice park of South lforida.
