andrew mitchell naples, fl USDA Zone:10b 13 Jan 2011 | Author of site clams this item is not fussy about soil, but mine was extremely sick-looking for many years...because mine either hated my alkaline soil which must have lacked required elements or was unable to handle nematodes? (so i eventually had to remove it and throw it away) |
John Gosden Thailand 14 Dec 2007 | This is probably my favourite of all Bauhinias. Although it lacks the scent of some, the delicate soft yellow hanging bells are produced so freely, from young plants, and form a charming contrast with the small bilobate leaves, typical of the genus. In Malay the genus is called "tapak kuda" - horse hoofprint, because of the shape of the leaf. The plants are easily kept in size and shape, taking pruning as severe or mild as you please. |
