 Bougainvillea spectabilis Twilight Delight
Family: Nyctaginaceae
Bougainvillea
Origin: Brazil
Vine or creeperFull sunSemi-shadeRegular waterPink flowersWhite/off-white flowersThorny or spinySeaside, salt tolerant plant

Very vigorous, evergreen, woody vines. Although normally climbers, they can be trained to stay bushy as pot plants, hanging baskets, or as standard 3 or 4 feet high. They will bloom beautifully on branches on 18"-20" long. Keep all long shoots cut back to 18"-20" for best bloom. The vibrant color of this vine comes not from the small white tubular flowers, but from the 3 large paper-like bracts that surround each flower. Winter bloomer. Likes very dry conditions. Very salt tolerant. Accent plant. Often used as a hedge. See article about Bougainvillea.

In my country they grow like the plague. They are used as hedge. Due to the spines and sturdy branches, they are good to keep burglars away.

It rains havily in my country. About 2 months ahead of the dry season you do the last prunning, then they bloom during the dry season.

I do not recommend the ones with the White bracts.... as they do not fall off; they yellow right on the branch.

CARE: Make sure when you are starting a plant that you do no twist or perturb the stick.... They are just as roses for that matter, that do not take well that you bother the tender roots.
