![]() | Adansonia rubrostipa Family: Malvaceae (Formerly:Bombacaceae) Subfamily: Bombacoideae Baobab Origin: West Coast of Madagascar ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Medium to large trees in between 17-65 feet in height. This tree can either have; sphere-like, bottle-shaped, or rarely, tapering trunks. The irregular crown, has major branches most often horizontal, rarely conical spines on upper surfaces of branches. Bark is usually reddish brown and exfoliating. Leaves occur from November to April and the Flowers Usually from February to April, at the latest in June. The fruit ripens from October to November. USDA Zone:9-1 12 Oct 2009 | For whatever it's worth, & out of appreciation of your website, I planted 10 adansonia digitata seeds in damp, not wet, orchid moss & got 80% germ. rate(8). Sowed Oct. 2,09. popped up Oct.9,09. I have good sucess using my own 3 different, well drained soil mixtures but have not accomplished better result yet. Am now going to research just the moss, plus moss/soil combined. If you are interested, will keep you updated on results. Later, Gerry |
