Anthurium scandens is known from southern Mexico and the West Indies to southern Brazil, ranging from sea level to 2,700 m. This is the most widespread aroid in the New World and, doubtless, the most ecologically diverse as well, occurring in tropical moist, premontane wet, tropical wet, premontane rain, and lower montane rain forest life zones. This is a creeping epiphytic aroid with a aerial roots along the stem. Produces small clumps of pale lavender to almost while berries.

Naturalised in many parts of India. It is a vigorous perennial climber, known for its dense green foliage and small delicate lantern shaped flower in long trailing lovely sprays. The plant has large tuberous roots and several ascending branches of 30-40 feet length. It flowers in all seasons except for a short period during monsoon. The flowers are white or in attractive shades of red and pink. The creepers grow well over arbors, pergolas, and walls. Regular pruning keeps the plant in good shape. Too much food causes vigorous vegetative growth at the expense of flowering. Propagation can be done by seeds, layers, stem cuttings or from division of the roots.

A bold and distinct twining evergreen climber or robust twining shrub having racemes of fragrant white or pink flowers with flat spreading terminal petals that trap nocturnal moths and hold them until dawn. Flowers all summer. The foliage is a light grey green and the plant can be kept back by pruning. After a long hot summer, large green pod like curious fruits are carried. Sometimes referred to as the cruel plant due to the moths that pollinate it being held onto by the flowers and only being released the following day. Only suitable for sunny spots in warmer counties or conservatory where the scent is more noticeable.
