South African endemic. The young Berkheya cuneata leaves at the stem-tip in picture appear sculpted in marble; erect and bluish white or the palest of green where the sun doesn't touch.

Strong vining habit for quick cover and beautiful show of single golden flower clusters throughout warm season. Can be used as summer annual in patio containers, hanging baskets. Vigorous grower to 20 to 30 feet long. This plant is one of the best for displaying lots of color for most of the summer. It absolutely LOVES full hot sun and heat. Once established it needs only occasional water. Hardy to about 30F. The color it offers makes it a worthwhile annual in severe winter areas. Climbing Shrub - Leaves are entire lance shaped. Has sharp thorns. Bloom-time: April to June. Blooms best if placed outdoors in full sun. To maximize flowering any major pruning should be done in March. The vibrant color of this vine comes not from the small white tubular flowers, but from the 3 large paper-like bracts that surround each flower.
