This is a large group that includes annuals, herbaceous perennials and shrubs. These plants love the sun and soil that is well drained.

Species:

Helichrysum italicum (Curry Plant) looks very similar to a Lavender in its leaf stage. Helichrysum oil has recently been reinvestigated as a medicinal herb. It is reputed to be good for bruises and varicose veins. The fragrance is warm, slightly honey like, rich and buttery, with green notes of wood, spices, herb.

Helichrysum petiolare (Trailing Dusty Miller)- it makes an attractive addition as a trailing plant or hanging pot. Drought-tolerant; suitable for xeriscaping.

One of the most popular wild flowers, this widely naturalized Eurasian plant has flower heads with a yellow center and white rays. This is one of the toughest perennial wildflowers. Ligularia is a perennial for moist soils. It has large leaves and spikes of yellow, daisylike flowers. Most cultivars of leopard plant have shiny green leaves variegated with irregular creamy white or yellow markings. It is sometimes used as a dramatic ground cover along ponds or stream edges, and as an accent plant in moist, shady locations.

Leopard plant was formerly classified in the genus Ligularia, and has been known under many names, including Ligularia tussilaginea, L. kaempferi, L. japonica, Senecio kaempferi, Tussilago japonicum, and Farfugium grande.

Matricaria recutita can be used as a groundcover since it grows only 4 to 12 inches in height. The foliage is feathery with an apple scent, and it is accented by white, daisy-like flowers with down-turned petals.

Chamomile is most often used for medicinal purposes, and is usually administered as a tea. It is sometimes known as "the plant doctor", because it is thought to help the growth and health of many other plants, especially ones that produce essential oils.
