This variety is extremely rare and has orange flowers.

Mussaendas are tropical shrubs or sub-shrubs that will grow to 10ft tall in tropical areas, but more likely will reach 1-3ft tall in containers. Clusters (corymbs) of small, tubular flowers with five spreading lobes bloom in summer, however it is the large and colorful, ovate, leaf-like sepals (to 3" long) that provide the real ornamental display. Some individual flowers in each cluster will develop a single enlarged sepal. Winter hardy to USDA Zones 9-11. Use a well-draining potting mix and keep soils consistently moist. Grow in full sun to part shade. Best bract/sepal color in full sun, but plants also appreciate some mid-day filtered sun in hot climates. Bring containers indoors in fall when night temperatures start dropping into the 50s. Overwinter in a greenhouse or a warm sun room. Cuttings may be taken in late summer for overwintering. No serious insect or disease problems. Watch for spider mites and whiteflies on indoor plants.

Clusters (corymbs) of small, tubular flowers with five spreading lobes bloom in summer, however it is the large and colorful, ovate, leaf-like sepals (to 3" long) that provide the real ornamental display. This mussaenda is a named cultivar, "Queen Sirikit" the current Queen of Thailand. It was named to commemorate her first visit to the Philipines in the 1970's. The only mussaenda ever to be given a name of a person not of Filipino extraction. Mussaenda is a tropical shrub or sub-shrub that will grow to 10ft tall in tropical areas, but more likely will reach 1-3ft tall in containers. Clusters (corymbs) of small, tubular flowers with five spreading lobes bloom in summer, however it is the large and colorful, ovate, leaf-like sepals (to 3" long) that provide the real ornamental display. This mussaenda is a hybrid between M. philippicca Dona Luz x M. flava and is named in resemblance a brilliant sunset of yellow peachy colors. It is a patented shrub raised from seed in 1995 in a nursery in Alipore, India. This shrub is very hardy and vigorous – the result of having P. flava in its breeding. It is very vigorous hybrid that grows quickly to 7 to 9 feet. The shrub is covered with showy yellow and salmon deepening to yellow and orange sepals. They are smaller than many other hybrids, but they are very showy on the bush. In Australia this plant has been rebranded as Mussaenda ‘Calcutta Gold’.

The Mussaenda genus includes about 100 species of cold-tender evergreen perennials, subshrubs, shrubs and climbers that are native to tropical Africa, Asia and Malaysia.

The tubular flowers may be yellow, red, pink or white and each has five spreading lobes. One sepal is usually enlarged and showy.

Mussaenda is not too difficult to grow, preferring some sun, an organically enriched and well-draining soil and water.
