Euphorbia hypericifolia Inneuphdia, Diamond Frost, Stardust White Sparkle

Click to see full-size image Euphorbia hypericifolia Inneuphdia
Family: Euphorbiaceae
Diamond Frost, Stardust White Sparkle
Groundcover and low-growing 2ftFull sunSemi-shadeModerate waterWhite/off-white flowersFragrantIrritatingAttracts butterflies, hummingbirdsSubtropical, cold hardy at least to 30s F for a short time

This hybrid produces masses of pure white bracts above finely textured, apple green foliage. It adds stunning texture and color to a border in full sun or partial shade.

Blooms year round.

It is delicate and airy and covered with tiny white blooms, an obvious choice for containers as both a spiller and a filler. It also softens walkways and walls. It is a perfect groundcover or a small perennial specimen. It is heat and drought tolerant, but will do best in partial shade, if you are planting near stone. It will tell you it is stressed by dropping some of its leaves and flowers. The plant grows to about 2 feet tall and wide. From a distance, it looks just like a soft white cloud, but in reality its as tough as any euphorbia. It takes sun, but also thrives in part shade, making it perfect for lighting up a dark garden area. Diamond Frost is fast growing, and one small 4 inch container will grow to fill a two foot area within one season. Because the plant is airy, its fine to plant it close with other plants to fill any empty space.

This plant is extremely low-maintenance, an absolute workhorse in the garden, blooming almost the entire planting season and with no deadheading needed. Don't let its delicate appearance fool you - it's exceptionally resistant to both heat and frost.

All euphorbias have slightly toxic sap; more an irritant than a poison.

Euphorbia lactea cristata
 Euphorbia lactea
Family: Euphorbiaceae
Candelabra Plant, Elkhorn
Origin: India
Large shrub 5-10 ftFull sunDry conditionsIrritatingEthnomedical plant.
Plants marked as ethnomedical and/or described as medicinal, are not offered as medicine but rather as ornamentals or plant collectibles.
Ethnomedical statements / products have not been evaluated by the FDA and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. We urge all customers to consult a physician before using any supplements, herbals or medicines advertised here or elsewhere.Thorny or spiny

Euphorbia lactea is a cactus-like plant with 3 or 4 angled branches that are deeply scalloped with black spines. It is used medicinally in India as a hot jam to treat rheumatism. All plant parts are considered poisonous, especially the white, milky sap. It is irritating to the skin, eyes and mouth. Euphorbia lactea need full sun to partial shade with warm temperatures. We use a soil mix consisting of equal part of loam and sand. The plant should be allowed to dry thoroughly between waterings. In the winter months, water should be restricted to once over the winter. The most common failure in growing this plant is over-watering, especially during the winter months. Euphorbia lactea "Cristata" is an intricately monstrous form with fan-shaped crested branches forming a snaky ridge or crowded cluster. Crest form often needs in grafting.

Euphorbia leucocephala, Pascuita, Snows of Kilimanjaro, White Small Leaf Poincettia, Snow Bush, White-laced euphorbia, Snow Flake, Poinsettia

Click to see full-size image Euphorbia leucocephala
Family: Euphorbiaceae
Pascuita, Snows of Kilimanjaro, White Small Leaf Poincettia, Snow Bush, White-laced euphorbia, Snow Flake, Poinsettia
Origin: Central America, from southern Mexico to El Salvador
Large shrub 5-10 ftSmall tree 10-20 ftFull sunRegular waterWhite/off-white flowersOrnamental foliageFragrantIrritatingAttracts butterflies, hummingbirdsSubtropical, cold hardy at least to 30s F for a short time

Shrub with decorative white bracts. Unusual species with tiny small leaves, white on top, reminding popular Poincettia. Unlike many other euphorbias, this plant is very fragrant. When it is in bloom, the air around is filled with a sweet pleasant smell. It is a close relative of the well-known and equally eyecatching, Poinsettia. In Euphorbias, the showy parts of the plant are actually leaf-shaped bracts; the tiny flowers are found in the centre of each bract. It is a fast rowing, relatively large shrub. Every part of the plant exudes a milky-white latex when damaged and may cause skin irritation when touched. Flowering time - late autumn. Protect from wind as stems tend to be brittle. It will need to be pruned back hard after flowering to stop it from becoming straggly. Caution - wear gloves when pruning and ensure no milky sap touches the body as it may be very irritating.

Family: Euphorbiaceae
Madagascar Jewel
Origin: Madagascar
Can be used for bonsaiSmall shrub 2-5 ftShadeSemi-shadeRegular waterModerate waterOrnamental foliageIrritatingSeaside, salt tolerant plant

Euphorbia leuconeura is endemic to Madagascar. It is threatened by habitat loss. The natural habitat is rocky areas in the dark forests. This is a shade loving Euphorbia. Grows to about 28" tall. It is shaped like a miniature palm tree. The leaves are covered with a milky white bloom that adds to the interest. It is very easy to grow the plant, it shoots away the seeds, just place them back in the pot and give enough water.

Grown often as a houseplant that is very ornamental and easy to grow even for beginners. Unlike many succulents, E. leuconeura is less susceptible to overwatering issues; It doesn't mind dry air and is very shade tolerant. When damaged the plant secretes a white fluid which is toxic, causes severe skin irritation. It propagates by shooting its seeds several feet into the air.
