Hamelia cuprea, commonly known as Bahama Firebush, is a deciduous plant that is native in the Central and South American tropics. It is a large shrub, typically growing 5-10 feet tall. In some cases, it can become a small tree, reaching heights of 10-20 feet. This sturdy tree loves to be in full sun and needs regular waterings. During the growing season, it is showered with yellow and orange flowers that are sure to attract butterflies and hummingbirds.
As a mature plant, it is cold hardy at least to 30s F for a short time. It is best grown in USDA Zones 8-11.
