Erythrina is a genus of tropical and subtropical flowering trees. The name Coral Tree is used for many of these trees.

All species of Erythrina have bean-like seed pods.

The seeds of over 40 of the species contain alkaloids, and some of the Amazonian species are used for medicinal and other purposes by indigenous peoples.

Medium to large tree. Bark conspicuously reddish-brown, fissured, set with hard thorny knobs; branches very spiny. Flowers in very striking terminal racemes, resembling the inflorescences of Aloe, scarlet-red. Seeds bright red with a white spot. The flowers of this species are larger and more spectacular than any other Erythrina species.

Wiliwili is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. It is the only species of Erythrina that naturally occurs there. This tree has a gnarled and stout trunk and spectacular orange-red flowers, much different from most erythrinas.This item is certified for shipping to California.
