Adenium hybrids - many varieties, Grafted

What is grafted plant

Q: What is a grafted plant?

Grafting is a method of vegetative (or asexual) propagation where a piece of one plant (scion) selected for its flowers or fruit and containing the desired genes to be duplicated is inserted into a piece of another plant (rootstock), with a strong vigorous root system, usually a seedling.

Benefits of the graft:

  • making a clone of the parent plant ensures the same cultivar, since most fruit trees will not come true to seed
  • taking a scion from a mature plant reduces time to flowering and fruiting (from 10-12 years for a seedling to 2-3 years or less for a grafted plant)
  • introducing dwarfing, hardiness, disease and pest resistance.
  • easier propagation method when other means like cutting or seed is not successful

groundcover and low-growingsmall shrub 2-5 ftfull sunsemi-shaderegular wateryellow/orange flowersethnomedicalediblesubtropical, cold hardy at least to 30s F for a short time

Toothache Plant is a medicinal herb that has been used for generations to manage the pain of toothaches. Both the leaves and the attractive golden flowers can be used as a natural anesthetic. Simply chew the leaves or flowers for a few seconds then you will experience a tingling and numbing sensation in your mouth. Cooked leaves lose their strong flavor and may be used as leafy greens. Both fresh and cooked leaves are used in dishes such as stews in northern Brazil. Flavor is described as having an odor of citrus, herbal, tropical or musty odor, and its taste can be pungent, cooling, tingling, numbing, or effervescent. Acmella Oleracea extract is considered a natural alternative to Botox. Applied topically, Acmella Oleracea reportedly reduces muscle tension, reducing facial wrinkles caused by tense or contracted facial muscles.
The plant is a small, erect, it grows quickly and bears gold and red inflorescences. It is frost-sensitive but perennial in warmer climates. Can be grown in a container and as a houseplant.

Albuca spiralis Frizzle Sizzle

CaudexCan be used for bonsaigroundcover and low-growingsmall shrub 2-5 ftfull sunshadesemi-shademoderate waterfragrant

This is one of the coolest plant you've ever grown! Albuca spiralis Frizzle Sizzle (the Corkscrew Albuca) is a South African bulb selection with green onion-like leaves that look like they were curled with a curling iron. Each plant has its own personality...some have short, tightly curled leaves, others have taller, looser curled leaves. Over time, the bulb will multiply, resulting in a full, very wild and wacky clump. Albuca spiralis blooms in the spring with spikes of orchid-like chartreuse-yellow flowers. On occasion, Albuca Frizzle Sizzle will rebloom later in the season. Not only is this a fun plant that will capture the attention of everyone who sees it, but it is super easy to grow, too. Treat it like a succulent. Lots of sun, well draining soil, and let the soil dry between waterings. Hot and dry conditions seem to encourage the most extreme leaf coils. In norther climates, Albuca spiralis Frizzle Sizzle is easily over wintered indoors on a sunny window sill. Or stop watering, let the bulb go dormant, and store in a cool, dry location. Fragrant yellow flowers appear in spring on flower spikes that are adorned with 10-20 blooms per spike. The blossoms have a light vanilla fragrance. Grow in full sun and allow the soil to dry out between waterings. There are no pest or disease problems with Frizzle Sizzle so it makes an ideal home garden plant that’s distinctive and eye-catching.

Use it with other foliage plants and brightly colored blooms. This is an extremely popular Rex hybrid begonia. Provide organic, sharp-draining soil in shade with lots of humidity. Water when soil is dry to the touch. Avoid soggy conditions, but do not allow plants to wilt. Do not over-fertilize.

groundcover and low-growingsemi-shadeepiphyteregular waterpink flowerswhite/off-white flowersornamental foliagered/crimson/vinous flowersyellow/orange flowers

Friendship Plant. This Bromeliad is one of the easiest to grow indoors, and one of the most striking. Its thick, strap-like leaves grow into an upright rosette, creating an urn that must be filled with water at all times. As the plant matures, the leaves arch outward, lending a graceful appearance. The foliage can reach up to 15 inches tall and about twice as wide, so give this plant some room to spread out. The flowers are pink, purple, yellow or green and are surrounded by red or pink bracts. Billbergia nutans gets one of its common names, Queen's Tears, from the drops of nectar that "weep" from the flowers when the plant is moved or touched. Because it readily produces offsets that can be shared with friends, it is also commonly known as Friendship Plant.
