A medium size semi-deciduous tropical tree having profuse blooms of pink flowers throughout the Spring. It usually blooms earlier (February-April) than many of its common relatives. Has only moderate hardiness, surviving only brief cool spells. Large, hard, black pods up to 3' are produced after flowers fade in summer. The sweet pulp of fruit is edible and used as a laxative.
