Xanthostemon chrysanthus Family: Myrtaceae Golden Penda, Expo gold, Junjum Origin: Coastal rainforest in north Queensland from Townsville to Cape York ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Xanthostemon - from Greek xanthos, yellow, and stemon, a thread or stamen chrysanthus - from Greek chrysos, gold and anthos, a flower, referring to the flower color.. In its native habitat it can grow to 65 feet. However, in the home garden it is more likely to grow only 35 feet. Spread: 30 to 35 feet. Blooming season: late winter-early spring. Likes a rich, well drained soil and moist conditions. A nice shade tree. Attracts bees and butterflies. Responds well to pruning and may be kept to large shrub proportions if pruned annually. This plant is known as junjum among aboriginal Australians, its hardwood used for swords, spear points and digging sticks. |
