Spondias cytherea, Spondias dulcis Family: Anacardiaceae June Plum, Ambarella, Golden Apple, Otaheite-apple, Caja-manga Origin: South Pacific Season: Fall, Winter. Fast growing tree, thick branches, leaflets shiny, bright green. Semi-deciduous. Dwarf variety has become popular for limited spaces. Fruit has an unusual flavor. It is eaten fresh, made into drinks and jellies that taste something like apple butter. Has a single sharp, rather large, spiny seed. Young leaves can be used in salad.
