| Pseudobombax ellipticum, Pseudobombax grandiflorum Family: Bombacaceae Pink Shaving Brush Tree Origin: American Tropics ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() One of the strangest looking brethren flowering trees, this fast-growing tree bears spectacular showy pink staminate flowers in the spring. It usually has no leaves at that time, which serves to show off the large and striking blooms. New leaves are deep maroon and quite attractive. Flowers large 6" to 8" across. Stamens numerous in 2 concentric rings with only the bases fused (like a comb). The stamens are loosely clustered in 5 groups in each ring. Leaves are compound and articulated. Also placed in Malvaceae ssf. Bombacoideae. |
