Mitrephora winitii Family: Annonaceae Maha phom Origin: Thailand ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Small tree 8-10m tall, low branching. Bark smooth, dark brown with greyish green patch. Indumentum dark brown shortly fine tomentose; densely on young twigs, petioles, midrib, inflorescences, bract outside, calyx outside, fruits; sparsely on leave beneath, nerves both surfaces. Leaves oblong to lanceolate or slightly ovate-lanceolate, dark green, pale dull green below. Inflorescences psuedo-axillary, peduncle 1-1.5cm long, with few flowers, stout; flowers almost sessile, bracteolate; bracts ovate; calyx ovate, up to 1cm long; outer petals elliptic, white, up to 4cm long; inner petals ovate, purplish pink, united; stamen numerous, connectives truncate; carpels numerous. Ripe carpels 10-16, almost sessile, wrinkle when dry, each fruit 2-2.5 x 1.5cm. Known only from upper peninsular Thailand in Prachuap Khiri Khan. Locally common in partly opened rocky or limestone hill, rather dry areas in evergreen forest, elevation 100-150m. See picture. See Article about fragrant plants of Annonaceae. |
