That is why it is ideal for keeping the garland in a room. Somehow the oil in the flower retains the fragrance. It is also the symbol of love, in the Sanskrit play Malati Madhaba, Malati would be weaving a bakula garland when she would see Madhaba. The weaving of the garland at that time would be defective as her mind would lose concentration in love.
