Erythrina is a genus of tropical and subtropical flowering trees. The name Coral Tree is used for many of these trees.
All species of Erythrina have bean-like seed pods.
The seeds of over 40 of the species contain alkaloids, and some of the Amazonian species are used for medicinal and other purposes by indigenous peoples.

This Erythrina with it's brilliant red flowers reaches a height of 60'. The leaves are edible - the seeds are poisonous. It's light wood is used in fishermen's floats. Resists disease. Plant 3/4" deep in well draining loamy soil. Keep warm and damp. Full sun.
Temperature of germination: 70-75F.

Attractive shrubby tree to 25' having bright red tubular flowers in terminal clusters; mature pods twist open exposing a neat display of bright red seeds. Trifoliate leaved. It is one of the more uncommon Erythrinas. Very Frost tender. Grows outdoors in zones 10-12 otherwise grow as a beautiful houseplant. Soak the seeds for 3 days. Plant 1" deep in well draining soil. Keep warm and damp. Full sun.
