Extremely new to the house plant world, a very unique plant wherein the leaves are triangular in shape and infused with pinks, bronze and mauve colors. Perennial herb from Ryukyu Islands and Taiwan, very ornamental. Stems are thin, leaves are very fine and tender. Plant looks made of silk. Leaves have shape of butterfly wings. Dark red stripes over bright light green foliage. Requires shady location and lots of water. Leaves will burn by direct rays. Wonderful houseplant and a conversation piece. Prefers shaded window environment. Leaves look like butterflies in flight. Stays small.

I have been growing the Christia Obcordata in full sun and it is thriving. I disagree with the recommendation of full shade for it.

I had a friend start this plant for me from their's. It had a few shoots then died (or so I thought) This past June I took the flowerpot outside and not 1 week later I had shoots growing like crazy. My plant has burgundy leaves and small mauve flowers and is thriving. I have just taken it inside for the fall/winter and have it in my office under alot of light. It does take alot of water. Wish I had a picture to show.

This plant was given to the Master Gardeners at the State Convention in Gainesville, FL a couple of weeks ago. I hope to see a lot more info on it in the near future. Oh, and I too am seeing a very happy plant that is getting 4 hours of west sun a day. I think as long as you don't let it dry out completley- it can take it.

I bought one of these in the spring (08) and it has been getting a lot of sun. It has grown quite well and has gotten very tall. Everyone loves it and I took the first clipping today to share with my wonderful mother. The cutting looked so good in the moist pot of soil, as if it were already growing. Hopefully the cutting "won't miss a lick" and grow for her as well as it has for me!
