Aeschynanthus sp., Lipstick Plant, Lipstick Vine
  Aeschynanthus sp.
Family: Gesneriaceae
Lipstick Plant, Lipstick Vine
Origin: Ecuador and Colombia
groundcover and low-growingvine or creepersmall shrub 2-5 ftshadekeep soil moistred/crimson/vinous flowersyellow/orange flowersincuded in CD catalog
A very attractive flowering vine, that is mostly used in hanging pots. Water freely durning spring to fall, but keep the soil a little drier in the winter. The trailing stems can be 2ft long, so they may need pruning after flowering has finished. The plant tolerates most house temperatures. Ideal temperatures are 60 degrees at night but 10 to 15 degrees higher during the day. A. pulcher is one of the classic lipstick plants, and is similar to A. lobbianus -- except for the tan colored calyx.

There are several pictures here of different Aeschynanthus plants, but there is also one picture of a Columnea (with yellow flowers borne on the middled of the branches). Columnea is South American and Aeschynanthus (lipstick vine) is Asian, but their growth habit is very similar. However, Columnea will bear flowers all along the stems, where as Aeschynanthus only bears flowers at the end of the hanging stems. Flower colors may be quite similar as well and care would be the same for either.
