They are deciduous trees growing 4-25 m tall, with pinnate leaves with 7-21 oval leaflets. The showy, aromatic, inflorescence is a large, pendant raceme, appearing in May or June. The flowers are creamy white or pink. Very cold hardy, at least to zone 5.
