Ludwigia octovalvis, or False Primrose, is an evergreen perennial native to Florida and is considered invasive in some areas. It will happily grow in full sun and thrive in shallow water that is high in salinity and does not need to be drained or changed regularly. Ludwigia octovalvis forms an attractive shrub 5-10 feet tall if planted directly in the ground. As a pot plant, it can reach between 2-5 feet tall in height. It has bright yellow or orange flowers from summer to fall before the frost and the blooms attract butterflies and birds. These plants are very tolerant of floods and can grow in water up to 12 inches high.

Ludwigia octovalvis is a hardy plant in USDA zones 9-11 and can survive short periods of temperatures down to 30°F when mature. For best results, give this plant plenty of sun and water - a moderate amount regularly. This fast-growing species is an attractive and vibrant alternative to landscape decorations.

In cold regions, where the temperature drops below freezing, growing Ludwigia octovalvis in pots is still possible. It is essential to bring the pot inside while temperatures are too cold and to keep them away from cold and draughts. Pots also need to be kept slightly moist and away from strong winds. Alternatively, it remains possible to house the pots in areas, such as a greenhouse, where temperatures don't drop below freezing.
