Fevillea cordifolia (Javillo) is a vine or creeper native to Central America and South America. It is a very attractive plant with bright pink, yellow or orange flowers and makes an exciting addition to any garden. Despite being a tropical plant, it can be successfully grown in cold regions in pots if the correct care is taken.

To be successful with Fevillea cordifolia, it is best to give it full sun but it can also tolerate semi-shade. When it comes to water, this plant prefers regular water but can also tolerate moderate amounts. As a tropical plant, it is important to keep the soil moist, so water it frequently in the hot months. During the winter, water less and make sure not to leave the plant sitting in water.

In addition to its attractive flowers, Fevillea cordifolia is also an ethnomedical plant, with many cultures using it as a purgative or reputed antidote for many kinds of poisoning, as well as a treatment for numerous diseases.

In cold climates, Fevillea cordifolia can be grown in pots. In order to do this successfully, make sure to choose a pot size that is sufficient for the size of the plant so that it is able to grow without becoming root-bound too quickly. It is also important to choose a pot that can resist the cold temperatures and has drainage holes. Position the pot in a sunny spot, or a semi-shady spot in hot climates, and water it regularly. During winter, make sure to bring the pot indoors or cover it with a thick blanket.
